Origin of Our Name: Theory #2

Another theory asserts that the Candland name was originally "de Cantelupo" meaning "from Cauntelo" (a place in Northern France.) See the House of Names Website.

These authors assert that our ancestors came from Northern France to England and then in 1172 assisted in the Norman invasion and were then granted land in Southern Ireland which they held up through 1640 (and lost during Cromwell's invasion).

This research asserts that the following names are all variations of the name Candland: Cantillon, Cantilon, Cantlin, Cantilupe, Cantlowe, Cantelowe, Cantell, Cantillion, Cantlon, and Cantlow.
